A former US election security chief who said Donald Trump’s loss to Joe Biden was not subject to election fraud should be “taken out and shot at dawn,” a Trump campaign lawyer said.

The conviction of Joe DiGenova’s comment on Chris Krebs was quick, including demanding his lockdown and charges that he acted like a “mob lawyer”.

Krebs was fired as head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cisa) on Nov. 17, not long after he said the election was “the safest in American history,” contrary to Trump’s claims.

Krebs also used Twitter to publicly expose Trump’s conspiracy theories.

DiGenova defended the president in the Russia investigation and is now involved in attempts to reverse the results in battlefield states. The Trump campaign won one lawsuit – and lost 39.

DiGenova made the cancer remark on Monday on the Howie Carr Show, a podcast on YouTube and Trump-allied Newsmax TV.

“Anyone who thinks the election went well,” he said, “like that idiot Krebs who was formerly head of cybersecurity, this guy is a class A idiot.” It should be drawn and quartered. Taken out at dawn and shot. “

Carr didn’t question the remark.

A day earlier, Krebs told CBS 60 Minutes that Trump was trying to “undermine democracy … undermine confidence in the elections, confuse people, frighten people”.

Trump called the interview “ridiculous, one-sided [and] an international joke ”.

DiGenova isn’t the first close Trump adviser to call for the death of an official to the president’s detriment. In early November, former White House campaign manager and strategist Steve Bannon, FBI director Christopher Wray and public health expert Anthony Fauci said they should be beheaded. He was banned from Twitter.

DiGenova said Trump’s legal team “spoke to the jury and tried to influence the jury. And that includes judges and legislators. And the governors in these states are a group of losers, along with their state secretaries. I’ve never seen wimps like this wearing an R. [being Republican].

“You know, they have to be treated politically. This is the only way you can deal with these people. “

Brad Raffensperger, the Republican secretary of state in Georgia who has resisted attempts to undo Biden’s victory there, said he and his wife had received death threats from Trump supporters.

The condemnation of DiGenova’s remark about cancer was quick.

Lois Clark, executive director of the Government Accountability Project, said in a statement: “Threats like these set off an avalanche from you. They terrorize other whistleblowers to silence. It is behavior that is appropriate for a mob lawyer. “

Frank Figliuzzi, a former assistant director of the FBI, said DiGenova had issued “a threat of retaliation related to the official duties of cancer in violation of federal title 18 USC 351”.

Andrew Weissmann, former federal prosecutor and senior advisor to Special Envoy Robert Mueller in the Russia investigation, tweeted that the remark was “shocking” and that DiGenova “should at least face a lockdown”.

Cancer has shown “fearless integrity”.
