In a landmark development in the legal industry, Rocket Lawyer announced that it will be the first national company to participate in an innovative legal services transformation program in Utah. Rocket Lawyer is recommended by the Utah Office of Legal Services Innovation and approved by the Utah Supreme Court. He will participate in the state’s regulatory sandbox, which is changing the restrictions on how lawyers can offer their services to the public. This program is the first of its kind in the US and enables Rocket Lawyer to meet the growing demand for legal advice in a more scalable manner.

How does Utah’s regulatory sandbox work?

Efficiency, scalability, and innovative methods of service delivery are keys to reducing the cost of legal services for small businesses and families. With this in mind, the Utah Supreme Court approved the two-year pilot program to improve access to legal aid outside of traditional law firms in new ways. According to the Utah Supreme Court, by allowing nontraditional service providers like Rocket Lawyer to explore new delivery options, the pilot will “improve access to justice by enhancing Utahns’ ability to sensibly access solutions to their legal problems, including access to legal information, advice and other resources. “

Why is Rocket Lawyer participating in the pilot?

In line with our mission, Rocket Lawyer is determined to expand access to justice. With an office in Ogden, Utah and experience running similar programs in the UK, we are excited to be part of this innovative program. For years, Rocket Lawyer has followed a similar model, providing online legal assistance to its UK clients in a fast, transparent and affordable manner. Digital-first services such as those offered by Rocket Lawyer have become essential during the COVID-19 pandemic as physical distancing requirements restrict access to personal services.

How will programs like this change online legal services?

By allowing flexibility in the delivery of legal services, it will be easier for anyone seeking legal advice during and after the pandemic to get the help they need.

After Utah, other states are expected to implement similar programs, including Arizona, where extensive regulatory changes were approved in late August and are expected to come into effect in early 2021.
