Pondicherry: A doctor in Pondicherry claimed that four people molested several women in a residential complex, police said on Friday. The woman alleged that the four defendants, including a lawyer, had repeatedly persecuted women.
The applicant works as an assistant professor at a private university medical hospital in Puducherry. The accused lawyer has been identified as a Subramanian. The complainant alleged that Subramanian had also previously bullied, persecuted and threatened women.
Accused of being supported by others
She alleged that the president of the Sittaramane Housing Association, secretary Anand, and another person helped the attorney and supported his objectionable behavior. The complainant further alleged that the women in the complex lived with fear and insecurity.
CCTV monitors installed on the defendants
Police said more than three-quarters of the families living in one of the apartments objected to the presence of CCTV cameras in elevators and patios, The Times of India reported. Residents said the cameras violated their privacy.
Instead of keeping the cameras’ monitors in common locations, they were kept in the house of a legal advisor to the association.
Lawspet Police registered a case under Section 294 (b) (obscene acts and songs) and 354 C (voyeurism) of the Indian Criminal Code (IPC). A probe was launched into the case.
