A court in Delhi has allowed former JNU student Umar Khalid’s request to have a copy of the indictment presented to his lawyers on Saturday instead of the December 2nd date.
Khalid’s attorney, Trideep Pais, filed the motion and informed the court that there had been a malicious media campaign against his client in various newspapers and media outlets alleging that these outlets were quoting the indictment in their reports against Khalid .
He pointed out that he has not yet received a copy of it “either to defend himself in the media process or to create the narrative”.
Special Prosecutor Amit Prasad told the court that he did not accept any of the allegations Pais made, but added that he would have no objection if the copy of the charge sheet was presented.
In his ruling, the Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat said: “However, without addressing the allegations / counter-allegations, the court, having heard today’s arguments, is of the opinion that it is the appropriateness of things to admit the present motions if so as far as possible as a prayer is to provide the soft copy of the fee sheet in the form of a USB stick. “
