Daniel Asiedu’s attorney aka sexy “Don Don”, the alleged murderer of JB Danquah-Adu, has withdrawn from his representation.
Mr. Augustines Obour told the Accra Supreme Court on Friday November 27th that he could not represent Asiedu as a lawyer because he (Asiedu) confessed to killing lawmakers around the world.
He said a video posted on social media showed Asiedu from prison confessing to the murder of Danquah-Adu, who was Abuakwa-North’s seated MP before his death in 2016.
“I therefore find it very difficult to defend this matter when the accused has told the whole world, including the jury, that he has committed the crime,” said the lawyer to the court on Friday, said Emmanuel Ebo Hawkson of Graphic Online that was in the courtroom.
Answer of the court
The presiding judge, Judge Lydia Osei Marfo, denied the lawyer’s reasons for withdrawing his services.
According to Justice Marfo, social media had become a part of everyday life that had enabled people to access information on the go.
“Unfortunately we cannot control that. But we as lawyers know that these public feelings and opinions do not constitute prima facie evidence against an accused, ”said the judge.
However, Justice Marfo said it respected the attorney’s decision to withdraw his services.
She therefore directed the registrar of the court to inform the director of mutual legal assistance to appoint a new lawyer to represent the accused.
The case will continue on December 16, when the court is expected to appoint a seven-person jury.
Asiedu and Vincent Bosso were charged with conspiracy to robbery, while Asiedu was charged with murder and robbery separately.
The two have not pleaded guilty to the crime.
Mr. Danquah-Adu was murdered on February 9, 2016 in his home in Shiashie, Accra.
It is the case on the prosecution that Asiedu and Bosso planned to commit a robbery, but Bosso decided not to re-engage in the robbery and went home.
Asiedu, the prosecutor, said he went to Shiashie and selected the MP’s house as the robbery site.
Prosecutors said that while they were looking for items to steal, Asiedu made a noise that woke the MP.
According to prosecutors, a fight broke out which resulted in Asiedu stabbing the MP in the neck and chest, killing him in the process.
