Republican John Kellner is declared the final winner of the 18th judicial district attorney’s race after a mandatory recount.
Kellner, who ran against Democrat Amy Padden, announced the win on Twitter Saturday afternoon. Padden admitted by calling Kellner to congratulate him, their campaign said in a press release. Kellner will succeed District Attorney George Brauchler, who was unable to run for re-election due to term restrictions.
In her concession, Padden said the results have not been confirmed by the Colorado Secretary of State Office, but she anticipates a loss of approximately 1,425 votes. The race had been close enough that a mandatory recount was required.
The 18th judicial district includes the counties of Arapahoe, Douglas, Lincoln, and Elbert.
It’s finally official! The recount has been completed in all four districts and I will take the oath of office on January 12 as the next prosecutor of the 18th district. Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible!
