Olayiwola Afolabi, an Edo-based attorney and notary public, has called on the federal government to set up a judicial investigative body to investigate alleged crooks’ attacks on police officers during the #EndSARS protest that violently led to the destruction of property and the loss of life in the country whole country.
In a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, with copies also sent to the Inspector General of Police, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Police Service Commission, Afolabi praised the President for his quick response to the protesters’ demands Dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the establishment of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry to investigate the activities of the disbanded SARS personnel.
He said: “However, I would like to draw your Excellency’s attention to the fact that men of the Nigerian Police were also attacked by unscrupulous, never-well-done fools during the kidnapped #EndSARS protest, which inflicted serious bodily harm on several of them.
“I believe that a committee of inquiry will be set up to investigate the attacks by these crooks on Nigerian police men in order to bring them to justice and to increase the confidence of the Nigerian police men in the ability of the Nigerian government to target them protect.
“In view of the foregoing, I write to Your Excellency and appeal to an investigative body to ensure, as soon as possible, that justice is considered not just done, but actually done.”
